What are Mudras

Mudras are energized hand or body gestures sometimes referred to as Yoga of hands. The purpose of using mudra is to purify one’s own energy pathways which will help one to advance spiritually and to become more strong and balanced physically.

  • Mudras are of great importance and images of many great masters are shown with their hands shaped in specific poses to reinforce and underline their significance.

  • On Christian icons we often see Christ’s hand in a mudra pose, especially in Prana Mudra (Giving Life).

  • Other familiar mudras include Krishna showing Abhaya mudra (Don’t Fear) or Buddha exhibiting Gyaana Mudra (Knowledge).

Each of the five elements are represented by one of the five fingers. Whenever there is an imbalance in the elements, which often happens, one falls ill. So mudras help to balance the five elements for better health and wellbeing.
