Hatha Yoga
What is Hatha Yoga?
According to Maharishi Patanjali, Yoga is “chitta (mind) vritti (thought impluses) nirodhah (removal)”, or in other words, the cessation or removal of mind fluctuations. Yoga also means unity and oneness and comes from Sanskrit word Yuj, which means to join. It is a union of Individual consciousness (your being) to cosmic consciousness (higher being).
Hatha is made up of two words; Ha meaning “Sun” and Tha meaning “Moon”. It refers to the balance of Male energy: Active, Hot, Sun and Female energy: Receptive, Cool, Moon within all of us. Hence Hatha Yoga is a path of finding balance by uniting opposites.
Hatha Yoga Pradipika (Hatha yogic texts) have given paramount importance to Yoga asanas as it helps to develop control over body, breath and mind. It has not only spiritual benefits but also physical, mental and emotional benefits.
